“Bomba Bernal” is a look at so-called Bomba films, Filipino sexploitation films from the 1970s and 1980s, with a decidedly modern take. Seemingly made for the Pornfilmfestival, this movie proves that there is still sexuality on film to explore from all parts of the world. But a standard documentary this is not. Told with an AI-created voiceover by the late Ishmael Bernal – one of the best late-20th century Filipino filmmakers – it is an innovative, experimental and hilarious look at trash and sex on film that most of us know nothing about. Plus, there’s a Berlin connection: Brezel Göring of Stereo Total was responsible for the music!
