LGBT SLO 1984

In 1984, Ljubljana’s queer scene seemed to be awakening and becoming visible. A lot has happened since then. Director Boris Petkovič packs 35 years of queer Slovenian history into one film, creating an impressive, multi-layered testimony to the times – far from the usual, Western-dominated narratives. Pop cultural phenomena, e.g. radical lesbian zines or gay parties, find just as much space as political achievements. Once again, the universal element of queer existence is shown: the search for connection and security within a strong community rejected by society.
