Fleeing his provincial hometown, young Casey hitchhikes to Sydney. Once there, he plunges into the world of anonymous sexual adventures and gets by with odd jobs. He meets Tib at a private Grindr sex party, and is fascinated by him, sexually and otherwise. For the first time, an emotional interest has been aroused in both, but deep-seated fears of loss and insecurities seem to stand in their way. In impressive images and with a laconic soundtrack, “Lonesome” is a sensitive portrait of two wounded souls who reach their emotional limits in their desire for closeness and distance, trust and rejection.
